Alrighty then, we are now in December. And with the holiday season still in full swing, we are still in the midst of our awesome journey to Win the Holidays. While staying within our series theme, I want to take a step back and start to look ahead. You see, 2017 is rapidly approaching. And, as is tradition, people start come up with their New Year’s resolution(s). We start to reflect on our past year and pick certain areas we want to work on or even try something “new”. Usually, the day to begin anything “new” falls on January 1. And, usually, these last few weeks of December are used as the last few weeks to continue the unhealthy behaviors we want to change. Well, I want you to start now.
Often, people will pick a certain date, time of year, or what have you, to start something. They look for the perfect time. And, as is tradition, the New Year is that time. Here’s the thing: there is never a “perfect time” for anything in life. Or if there is, I haven’t come across one yet. There will always be obstacles and barriers that you will have to work through or around. Just because it is the New Year will not change this. Life is, to say the least, unpredictable. It can be good but often times, it is not. And putting something off until January 1, or even Monday, will not stop those times when life gets in the way. That’s why I want you to start your New Year’s resolution(s) now. Today even. There’s no time like the present; make hay while the sun is shining; some other cliché for starting now.
More often than not, people make resolutions and goals based around nutrition and exercise. If you’ve been to the gym in January, you’ve seen it too. There are typically 2-3 times as many people working out in that first month of the New Year compared to the few months leading up to it. And, more often than not, come March, those numbers have dwindled, and the usual suspects are left. A lot of what I talk about in this blog is creating a sustainable, healthy lifestyle centered on proper nutrition and regular physical activity. If you’re looking for a starting place, I’ve written a few articles here, here, and here, in this series that are perfect. I’ve also written about systems that you can develop that will help build that healthy lifestyle I talk about. These resources are great places to get the ball rolling and build your foundation.
Building a healthy lifestyle is not easy. But it isn’t that hard either. You just have to start. Take that first step in the right direction. And then, take another. Keep moving forward and keeping taking the next step. Before you know, you will be living a healthy lifestyle. And that is easy. So don’t wait until January1, 2017. What’s stopping you?
I’d like to know what you will be working on in 2017. Leave a comment with your “goals”.
